Posts & posts & posts & posts. All of the things I am bad at.
This song showed me the power of revision before I knew exactly how important it was. It’s about how I managed to let my guard down for a girl I never trusted. A year and some change. She had a way with words that made all of the wrong decisions seem right. It was invigorating in all of the worst ways. This relationship ended in a way that neither of us are proud of, but what can you do. A relationship built on convenience. It needed to happen.
I spent the months after its end trying to piece my life back together. I guess it’s easy enough to just leave it at this: It’s a common story.

As this semester comes to a close, I have been in the process of writing my final papers and ignoring the world. A combination of which I have gotten used to on a level I can’t say I am completely content with, but you do what you have to do. As I break the tip of the mountain of work to be finished, it’s time for another post.
This song is about a man named Marko Kurtovic. I remember once seeing Slingshot Dakota play in a packed coffee shop located in downtown Burlington. The shop is called Muddy Waters. The coffee is pretty decent. Anyway, Carly was all about explaining her thoughts behind certain songs at this show, which was different than when I had seen them before. They were about to play their song “Ohio” when Carly stopped to express that it was a song about a group of people who opened their arms to Slingshot. A group of people that made Ohio a worthwhile place to visit and a beautiful place to discover.
A few summer ago I met Marko in Orlando, Florida. He opened his own doors and the doors to Orlando. He quickly became one of the most genuine, honest, and kind people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. A year later, I went back to Orlando on my own accord to visit Marko for a little over a week. This song is about driving home from a show in Melborne, Florida. It’s about being incredibly tired, but pushing through to get home. It’s about a car ride filled with sing alongs and some of the most stimulating conversation I can remember having. It’s often hard to justify spending money and taking time to visit friends, but Marko is someone I will rarely question visiting. He is among the best people.
This is a song called Lake Eola. It’s the name of the lake directly across from where he used to live.
